- Jihočeská univerzita v Českých Budějovicích, Pedagogická fakulta, Katedra tělesné výchovy a sportu
Presented article deals with the history of the American YMCA in Europe during WWI and shortly after its end, when it contributed in organization of Inter-Allied Games. American YMCA took care of soldiers and prisoners of war of both enemy sides during WWI in Europe. Its officials offered to soldiers and prisoners of war many possibilities of spending leisure, among which was physical education and sport. Thanks to them a lot of sports material was transported from the United States to Europe. During and after the WWI it was well used, because the YMCA became an important instigator of organization of Inter-Allied Games. About 1,500 sportsmen from 18 countries took part in this great sports event, which was held to an honor of victorious states of WWI. Among states that took part in this event was newly founded Czechoslovakia as well. After the end of Inter-Allied Games American YMCA didn't leave Europe, but it spread its activities in new states among which Czechoslovakia was as well.
