Rowing and skating are our oldest organized sport categories. Rowing origins back to the 60s of 19th century. Even though has not been one of the most popular and watched sports it has an important role in the history of our physical education and sports. The location of the rowing centers in the Czech lands is noticeably uneven. The location has been influenced mainly by the connectivity to a suitable watercourse or a suitable water surface. One unique although not the most important rowing region was also created in southern Bohemia. This report includes an analysis of the development of rowing in its three South Bohemian centers - Jindřichův Hradec, Tábor and Třeboň. Additionally the report includes the necessary brief overview of the history of rowing in the Czech lands. Historically these three cities have water areas located directly in their historic centers. This was the main and common determining factor of development of rowing in them. Although the natural conditions in these cities are relatively similar, their rowing development shows significant differences, both in terms of the time and in terms of the linearity of development and level of achievement. This historical analysis also demonstrates the negative impacts of both World wars on sports in our country.Altogether, this report consists primarily of the history of the incredible development in Třeboň's rowing, which took place very soon after 1945. This brought the first golden Olympic success to the Czechoslovak rowing and subsequent expansion of rowing in Jindřichův Hradec.
