History of tourism in Šumava from the 80s of the 19th century to 1938

This study focuses on the history of tourism in the Bohemian Forest (Šumava) and its Foothills, which constitute the largest mountain range in the Czech Republic. In terms of time, it covers a relatively long period from the 1880s to the occupation of the Czechoslovak borderlands in the autumn of 1938. In most parts of this region, until the end of World War II, the German population predominated. Nevertheless, there was no significant German-specific tourist association established here. After the formation of Czechoslovakia in 1918, there was a significant influence from the Czechoslovak Tourist Club. This message focuses on organized and spontaneous hiking tourism, describing tourist destinations, tourist infrastructure, and the activities of tourist associations. The text is supplemented by a total of 19 images, mostly composed of vintage postcards.
