Professional publications suggest that there is a gradual decrease in the physical activity of children who prefer less demanding activities, such as computer gaming or watching television. The decrease in the physical activity is accompanied by deterioration of the level of general motor performance and thus it was the aim of this contribution to compare the quantity of the physical activity and the level of coordination abilities of pupils of urban and rural elementary schools. The research group included 30 six-grade pupils (girls) from two rural schools and 25 pupils (girls) from two urban schools. The coordination abilities were tested using standardized tests according to (Broďáni & Šimonek, 2010). The amount of physical activity was also monitored using Actigraph GT3X for a period of 7 days in June under very good weather conditions that allowed a full use of the leisure time. In the six tests that have been done, the girls from urban schools achieved better mean results than the girls attending rural schools; only in two cases (Test No. 3 and 6) the differences found in the individual tests cannot be considered for statistically significant. On the other hand, the results from monitoring the quantity of physical activity during one week show that the girls from urban schools were less physically active than the girls attending selected rural elementary schools.
