We have assessed response of human body to change to the load due to the use of poles in running of young long-distance runners in our study. We have compared the measured values of lactate and average heart beat with the values from running at the same speed without the poles. We have reviewed the effects of use of the poles in the run taken by intensity of the load between aerobic and anaerobic threshold. On voluntary basis, seven men at age 16.4±1.8 years with average weight 62.4±6.7 kg and body height 177.6±5.2 cm, and nine women at age 16.3±1.9 years with average weight 54.2±5.6 kg and body height 166.1±4.7 cm participated in the study. At the time of testing, they all have been involved in daily running long-distance practice for at least one year. When running without the poles, we recorded lactate value 2.8±1.0 mmol/l and average heat beat 170.3±9.0 beats per minute; when running with the poles, the measured lactate values were 5.0±1.6 mmol/l and average heart beat 178.3±9.1 beats per minute. The lactate values (ω2=0.541) as well as heart beat (ω2=0.230) showed important differences between running with and without the poles. Running with poles is more intensive load than running without poles. Physiological load of the organism during running with poles is higher than without them.
