The several factors correlated with spike velocity in womens volleyball

The aim of this study was investigate the relationship between ball velocity after spike and anthropometrics and muscle power characteristics. Anthropometrics characteristics measured in this study was age, body weight, body high. Ball velocity after spike was measured with Bushnell radar gun. Power in bench press was measured with FiTROdyne Premium. Power in the concentric phase of contraction of the preferred half of trunk was measured by FiTRO Torso dyne. Vertical jump measuring device was used to measure high of the jump after 3 step run-up. Eleven elite female players of age 17,39 ± 2,21, with mean sports experience 6,55 ± 2,02 volunteers in this study. The mean ball velocity after spike was 22,25 ± 1,06 m . s1 (max. 23,61 m . s1 , min. 20,00 m . s1 ). The mean high of the jump after 3 step run-up was 2,94 ± 0,07 m (3,08 m; min. 2,83 m). Correlations were found between the velocity of the ball after spike and power during concentric phase of the movement during bench press Pmax (R = 0,85; p < 0,01); Pmean20kg (R = 0,81; p < 0,01); Pmean22,5kg (R = 0,73; p < 0,05) and number of years of sport experience (R = 0,81; p < 0,01). There was found significant correlations (R = 0,83; p < 0,01) between body weight and ball velocity after spike. The results showed significant relationship between power in bench press, number of years of sport experience, body weight and ball velocity after spike.
